In the speech presented by William Gibsonin “Up The Line” at Directors Guild of America’s Digital Day was about the history of representation and speculation of the media. What he exactly meant in the speech was that in the current time, the term which we use ‘media’ is originally known as ‘mass media’. However, the survival of the same is only possible if there is an audience which is elaborately educated enough to appraise and experience it.
There are certain inherent advantages which are still possessed in this kind of platform. Some of which are, individuals are able to provide interiority to the character with a proper level of comfort and at the same time it denies specificity to the screenwriter. But, at the same time there is a requirement that the audience who perceives it must be literate enough to understand what exactly prose fiction is and must understand the fact as to how one accesses it. The requirement for the same is that is there must be complex cultural education and a base of certain socio-economy (Gibson 2013). But, the reality is there are a very few people who are afforded the luxury to afford this kind of education.
It was after the world War Two that there was an advent of the digital media. With the advent of this kind of technology it seems as if the future of mass media was in danger. This is because of the fact that the nature of this kind of modern technology started to become more overt and more apparent (Gibson 2013). It was over the period of time that the texture of the latest technology the grain of this technology started to become progressively finer. In term of the scale, they are somewhat similar to the working of the brain itself. There was further advancement with the introduction of internet.
