Choice of food is present through preference of individuals. Research has further made it evident that personal choices on food however along with socio-economic factors is also a determinant considered collectively (Pastore et al 2008). These determinants are further inclusive of the perspective in which behavior of eating can be developed. The food choice access, an individual’s state in terms of finances, the external environment of the individual, the restaurants cost offering and individual choices made are all important and their collaborative determinants are equally essential. Furthermore, external environment and food are no longer in alignment with the individual preferential determinants and instead food has become a market based commodity acknowledging economic and social factors perspective as well intersecting with political considerations.
Aim and Objectives: Economic and health considerations influence food preferences made by an individual. The purpose lies in gaining external environment factors based understanding that can impact access to community related to fast food or healthy food. The objective furthermore, lies in identifying the options of food on factors of economy and health for CUNY Queens College neighborhood. The assumption taken in this research lies in considering healthy eating cannot be influenced by cost and access in economy forming the general hypothesis of this research.
Method
Research of exploratory nature was developed in this research for understanding the way in which external environment based factors (socio-economic considerations) may impact healthy food and fast food related access.
