Another aspect of this consumerism is planned obsolescence. Under this pretext, products are made in such a way that they will become obsolete in a year or two. This is because new objects will come to the market that beat those products. If this is not done then the products will become obsolete themselves. Hence planned obsolescence becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.
Moreover, critics of the currently over-consuming domestic culture use the notion of sustainable consumption which says that people should only consume what they need. In this way, nature would be better able to provide us the resources we need.
