Hazards at construction site are known but they are very difficult to timely control and manage them. This section will discuss major parameters that are involved in construction business and measures to control them and minimize their effects. Multiple international standards are in practice to ensure health, safety and environment of work premises and the employees involved. This paper will address effective Health, Safety and Environment policy (Dunn et al., 2011).
Strategies Adopted for Site Safety
One of the most important parts of construction is to secure the sites for both the residents around and for the workers. It is very important to practice efficient management strategies for making sites comfortable and secure for the general public as well as for the labours working on it. The health and safety act passed in 1974 force the employees and managers of a construction company to take steps that ensure the health and safety of people other than employees too. This means that this act requires guarantee that the people present around the construction site are safe from the activities happening there. In addition there is another act i.e. the Construction Design and Management Regulations which require that the construction site will be safe from any unauthorized access and the perimeters of the site should be fenced off or defined by suitable sign or that can be identified easily by the general public. This was also for the security purpose as it reduces proposed risk to the construction site and its employees (Wang, 2011).
In this paper we will be discussing the safety management techniques of the construction site and will discuss in detail the practices which are common and crucial for site safety. These strategies and practices will include:
• Securing Construction/Demolition Site through Hoardings
• Supervising and Managing Pedestrian and vehicular traffic close to construction sites.
• Managing lifting and hoisting activities
• Securing Construction Materials and Equipment On-Site
All these practices are necessary for helping site mangers for convert construction place free of any hazards.
