Vegetation and Wetlands
The project’s potential impact over the vegetation and wetlands can take place where the activities of project can affect such resources. These impacts are likely to take place due to the operational and construction elements of the project (National Energy Board NEB, 2016). Methods of assessment and field survey is based on the approaches that are standardized articulated over time by prior consultation with the Alberta and federal agencies of regulation along with the stakeholders. These methods of field are adequate in predicting the effects of project on the vegetation and wetlands. These effects involve changes within the communities of native vegetation, wetlands being disturbed or lost, changes within the ECMC, and the plant SOMC change. Such effects can also introduce or widely spread the plant species that are non-native and invasive as defined by the provincial regulations (Anifowose et al., 2014). It is considered that the native vegetation communities are existing even after the previous disturbances due to that the transportation, industry, development and agriculture and wetlands are existing in variety of conditions like high quality and degraded both.
Hence, the mitigation measures are recommended for the vegetation and wetlands. For the change within native vegetation, development of facility will be avoided in areas of riparian along with the use of certified no. 1 seed. For the wetlands disturbance, facility footprint will be lowered in wetlands and grading will be reduced within the boundary of wetland. Silt fences, cross ditches will be used in the wetlands boundaries (Bakhtyar et al., 2013). Ecological communities change will be addressed through avoidance of facilities within ECMC along with restricting and limiting the herbicide application. Upon the finding of SOMC, concern discovery contingency plan will be implemented. Invasive species spread will be addressed through keeping the equipment clean of vegetative debris. Weed infestation areas will be signed and marked and topsoil piles will be monitored for the avoidance of infestation.
