Technological Determinism states that development of technology determines societal conformity. This theory is considered to be reductionist in theme. It basically explains that technology determines culture and social values. There are many theories and derivations that have been determined from this fundamental theme.
Mobile Phone can be described as the paradigm for the notion of technological determinism. In 1973, Motorola Company devised the first mobile phone that was used to place a phone call. The first mobile phone weighed 1.1 kg and took 10 hours to recharge for 30 minutes of talk time. In 1983, Motorola undertook the first commercial launch of the mobile phone. The weight of the phone was almost 1 kg and was affectionately called as bricks. In 1990, Nokia and NEC Company entered the fray to sell commercial phones. The phones weighed around 800 grams and were a huge improvement. In 1997, the ubiquitously known snake game was also embedded in the Nokia phone.
In early 1990s, Mobile Phones were considered to belong to people in the elite upper class. In 2015, these mobile and smart phones are used universally. It is prevalent everywhere. Modern day people are very dependent on digital media tools provided in their smart phones for their everyday activities.
Socially mobile phone technology and improvement in wireless communication has enabled increased connectivity to people across the spectrum. Accessibility to this technology has increased rampantly. People have started to become so engrossed in these technological devices that regular human connectivity has reduced. It has impacted the way in which humans communicate with each other. The very notion of speaking and socializing has changed dramatically owing to mobile phone technology. Technological determinisms are popular in societies because they give individuals autonomy. Nevertheless, it should not completely alienate traditional forms of communication. These technological tools must be used only for productive process. Even though the statement sounds cliché, it is nevertheless true.

Smart phone and digital tools has become an integral tool that has replaced traditional communication and everyday activities. Technology determines essentially social groups in the smart phone apps and determines how the day is spent. Personally, it can be seen that the mode of communication has changed owing to this activity. Knowledge and gathering information has become easier owing to this technology. There is also a lot of time spent in increasing social connections. Personal view about events has also been expressed using Facebook and Twitter. Technological determinism has aided in meeting a large number of people and enhancing relationships within peer groups. It has increased social circle. Information need not be sought in libraries and books. Hence, trips to the libraries have been reduced. It has aided in easier gaining of knowledge. It has also become easier to develop creativity and skills in digital photography by using tools like Instagram.
In retrospection, it can be seen that technological determination plays a very important role in the everyday activities. Progress in technology cannot be stopped. Nevertheless, it is important to maintain a balance. There should be ways developed to deal with the new issues that arise from each technology.
