Strategic group mapping is a strategic tool which is used by the companies worldwide. It helps the companies in figuring out their direct competitors and to plan out the strategies accordingly. Marks and Spencer has built a reputation of an expensive and classy brand. They have been focusing on charging a premium for the uniqueness that they are offering. Next is catering to completely different target market from all the other brands and therefore they offer at a lower price, but they also focus on differentiation because they do not want their products to be considered as cheap quality products.PESTLE network is a part of the external analysis while a strategic analysis is carried out or a market research is conducted, I help in giving an overview of the different macro environmental factors that the company has to take into consideration. It is an extremely useful strategic tool for understanding market, to figure out whether it is a growth market or is it declining, business position, potential and direction for operations. Porter had developed his five forces in reaction to the SWOT Analysis; he thought that the SWOT analysis was of ad hoc nature. Porter’s five forces can help the companies to identify the industry and evaluate the opportunities and threats that the market would be offering. The forces can be classified into two categories, three are from threats from external sources and the remaining two come from internal threats. (Porter, M.E. 2008)
