It is very much predicted that the approach towards the patients or their treatment procedures is not supportive in nature. They are treated as an unwanted component of our society. No one has such patience or time to accept their errors or try to make an effort to cure them. They become a burden at their old age. The patient’s family believes that their treatment will be better in hospitals under the supervisions of experts but the real scenario is completely different. In many hospitals, they are treated as mental patients, but actually, they have a miniature problem of remembering things or memory. Other than that, they are completely perfect as other normal persons. The environment, in which they are kept for the better treatment, sometimes creates troubles to them. The disciplines or restrictions within the hospitals can make then annoyed. The behaviours of the attendant or the nurses are not gracious to please them. In many hospitals, one nurse is appointed to take care of many patients with dementia. It is very difficult for the nurse to provide equal attentions and importance to individuals. Some hospitals are trained their nurse regarding the caring process of the dementia patient. However, the training process is not sufficient to gather practical knowledge. Sometimes the training session was too short that it does not have any practical impose. Their partial knowledge with no practical competence drives the patients towards uncertainty.
Many hospitals are still unable to train their personnel in dementia knowledge and skill training program. In this program, they came to known how they react with such patients. The nurses are still not aware of the proper handling process of such patients. Improper training procedures are the main reasons behind this scenario.
(“Caring for people with dementia in general hospital settings: a resource for nurses”, 2004). These types of situations are not acceptable anymore.
From my point of view, the hospital’s authority should take an advanced education program regarding dementia in details with practical exposure to develop the understanding and increase acceptance towards the patients. The sympathetic and understanding behaviour of the nurses will help in the treatment procedure (Dewing, 2001). The positivity of the surroundings is an important component for their quick recovery rather than medicines. In the severe cases of the disease development, the family members and medicals staffs are required to be cooperative and encouraging to boost up their strength of mind.
