Women’s role in Modernism can be studied from different perspectives (Wrenn, 2010). However, the same woman does not feature in the debates of modernism conducted by Marshal Berman in the Marxist space. While is arguable that the main theme in Berman’s discussion is the finding Modernism in Marxism, it is also equally arguable that any representation or discussion on modernism is incomplete without including the modern women. This essay drawing on Rita Felski’s ideas develops a feminist critique of the concept of ‘modernity,’ especially as expressed in the work of Marshall Berman. The essay explores the lack of women, contributors and feminist marginalization in Berman’s discussion. The essay draws on three feminist critique offered by Felski and a few different aspects that are found in the three critiques.
