From the analysis of above discussion between two highly qualified professional, I learned that engineering is an art as well as science. It is art in the sense that how you develop your skills and knowledge by utilizing the resources available to you, in the most optimal way. It is science in the sense that how you convert your learning experiences into practical projects. In professional field, you have to employ all your knowledge. Sometimes you have to deal with the unstructured problems and to develop out of the box solution to resolve such problems. As a matter of fact, civil engineers have to deal with a new situation everyday due to the requirement of the profession – new designs, new material, new people, and new tasks. One can only deal with such situations in efficient and effective manner, if he is trained and skilled to do so. This calls for the role and importance of academic institutions that how they combine art and science as discussed above to prepare a productive professional.
