It was said by Kahn and Cannell that ‘An interview is a purposeful discussion between two or more people’. There are three major types of interviews which are used for the purpose of research. These are structured interview, Semi-Structured interview and Unstructured or In-depth interview.
Interviews could also be divided into two major class namely standardized and Non-Standardized. Under the standardized interview, the questionnaire is administered by the interviewer. On the other hand, under Non-standardized interview, the interviews could be either one to one or one-to-many.
Various methods which are used under one-to-one interview are face to face interviews, telephone interviews and electronic methods of interview like internet and intranet mediated interviews. At the same time, under the one to many, the type of interview methods used are group interviews which focuses on the groups and internet and intranet mediated group interviews which also focus on the group.
