Employees want more jobs whereas management wants to reduce staff, improve productivity and save on all fronts. Management wants to computerise everything possible to reduce dependence on manual staff and labour and unions do not allow this to happen. Labour wants a fair share of productivity gains but managements terms it as fruits of risky investments. However, the survival of both partners is dependent on each other and how they look at each other’s concerns. Trade unions play a vital role in improving or spoiling this labour-management relationship.
