Also when government intervenes and makes rules and regulations which bans smoking in public places, the smokers are highly discouraged from smoking in public places which would include any road or public par, work place and restaurants, each of this would restrict the smokers smoking. The only time they would get to smoke is at home and the majority of people tries and avoids smoking in their house owing to their family and restrictions which are obviously imposed on the young people by their parents. This ultimate result is lesser consumption of cigarettes and thus smoking is reduced in a lot of ways. This discourages the smokers because firstly smoking becomes a punishable offence, and secondly the time span that they would get for smoking is only at home, thus smoking is reduced. Also this is beneficial to the people who are already trying to quit smoking, as this gives them a significant reason to quit smoking. This causes an overall impact and it has already been reported by The Daily Mail (2008), stating, “At least 400,000 people in England have quit smoking as a result of the ban on lighting up in public places that was introduced last July” (Yang et al., 2011). Results should be the same in other countries too, like China. The impact would be significant and would give long term beneficial results for the smokers as well because the urge to smoke decreases in an overall manner when smoking is banned publicly.
Lastly what can be noticed is that smoking is banned in public, it means that the government takes the act of smoking very seriously, which means that the non-smokers are discouraged from the beginning and the number of potential smokers decrease significantly. Smokers in the meantime would face withdrawal actions and would ultimate need to get rid of the nicotine addiction which again is a step towards a healthier lifestyle. The withdrawal symptoms though bad are curable and when the non-smokers are being given reasons by the government through indicative symptoms in smokers, they would not willingly get drawn towards something which clearly indicates is harmful in all the ways (Yang et al., 2015).
Also the cigarette butts and other material related to smoking is harmful for the environment and when people smoke in public they tend to leave the things in open and therefore by this act the government is also saving the environment (Yao, Lee and Mao, 2009).
