新西兰圣海伦斯奥克兰商学论文代写:AIG灾难

Post the crisis, there were huge negotiations between the Federal Reserve and management of AIG. It was decided that the firm could not be allowed to fall as there could be huge consequences of AIG falling. Federal Reserve then gave a loan to AIG and in return got almost 80% of the equity of the firm.

AIG had to be bailed out because of the inefficiency and the greedy nature of the management. When the firm was selling insurance against the CDOs they should have done their investigation prior to selling to the products as to what could have been worst possible scenario if the firm had to payout the money. Also the firm did not do the analysis on the quality of loans which were linked to the CDOs. There were all crap loans which were bound to default in the future. If the management had been attentive then they could have prevented the crisis.  They only thought about the rising revenues of the firm (Davidson, 2008).

The best alternative for the government could have been that the government should have let the AIG take the fall, if they decided not to save Lehman Brothers. It provided a wrong message to the people in the financial world that if something happens in the future the government can think of bailing them out. It was also researched that the money paid out in bailout was not in the proper manner and the management did not use the bailout money in a responsible manner.  If the government wanted to give the bailout money to AIG then it should have kept a strong monitoring on the firm activities and the way their management utilizes the funds (Howson, 2009).

The money which was used to fund the bailout was the tax payer money and this was money should be utilized in an appropriate manner (Pearson & Mitroff, 1993).
