Other limitations of the naturalistic observation include if there is no one way mirror and the participants know they are being observed they may alter behavior and social desirability effect may obscure the results. Moreover analysis of the notes and video tapes requires a high level of inter-rater reliability which needs to be pretested. Analysis of recorded data takes 5 to 7 time more time than actually recording the data. Hence it makes the process tedious and expensive. Also, the observers must be trained and should know how to accurately take notes.
