In electoral politics NPD has been insignificant ever since. A strange kind of revival was brought for the party in the 1990s. Especially in the eastern Lander, the party tried effectively to attract violent right wingers and skinheads (Zimmerman, 1995). NPD still receives all benefits and privileges a party is entitled to even though NPD has transformed itself from a disreputable party to a type of backbone organization for neo-Nazi fighters.
