Outdoor environment and new environment training would both be helpful for the child when developing their numeracy skills. For this form of a curriculum to develop, it is necessary for curriculum developers and practitioners to work on how mathematical experiences can be nurtured in the garden or natural environments. For this, two basic tenets are to be met. Primarily, the educator must understand that for effective teaching of mathematics, it was not necessary to have specific resources. Mathematical development must be possible with limited resources, too. Secondly, when setting up such a teaching environment for the child, it is necessary to ensure that the environment is rich with things which will facilitate counting similar elements that can be grouped together or could be compared etc.
A young child’s mathematical skills and forms of reasoning in an indoor environment (the MAI) and the outdoor environment were observed. From the observations, and from current research on the subject, it could be said numeracy skills can be developed in an enhanced way in early years, if the focus is more on introducing math to the child in environments child is already used to, the educator should not worry about how the child is made to learn math, and make use of whatever is available around the child to teach them.
